Dominique Maltais’s Biography :

Dominique was born in Petite-Rivière-St-François, in the early 1980s. Since she grew up near the Massif ski resort, it was only natural for her to develop a passion for skiing at a very young age. At the age of six, she put skis on and flew down the slopes all winter long.

At 11 years old, she tried a new sport: snowboarding. Unfortunately, she did her first descent sliding down on her buttocks and cried all the way to the bottom of the hill. But her strength of character helped her to bounce back and adapt to this new sport technique.

Henceforth, if there was even the slightest hint of snow, she went to the Massif ski resort and snowboarded all day long. She never took part to competitions. But one day, she decided to start competing and chose a discipline called: snowboard cross.

In 2002, she decided to fulfill her childhood dream consisting of becoming a female firefighter. She registered to the CDNF, gave her all and graduated. She was then hired by the City of Montreal, where she worked on a full time basis until 2006. Following her success at the World Cup and Turin Olympic Games, she decided to put a hold on her firefighting career in order to concentrate on achieving her Olympic medal dreams.

In 2006-2007, she missed the majority of the season as a result of an injury, but she kept on focusing on reaching the podium at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. However, a bad fall during training kept her from moving forward during the elimination heats, taking place only 30 minutes later.

But Dominique Maltais, speaker, again wiped the slate clean and started over! She resumed her training and began a personalized workout in order to improve her starts, speed, and technique. Her next three seasons following Vancouver’s Olympic Games met with success.

She won two World Championship Medals (Bronze Medal in 2011 and Silver Medal in 2013), then she obtained the Gold Medal at the 2012 X Games and became the owner of five Cristal Globes in a row as a Snowboard Cross World Champion. Then, this world leader in snowboard cross won the Silver Medal in Sotchi in 2014!

Nowadays, Dominique still combines her two passions consisting of teaching young snowboarders from the Collège des Hauts Sommets de Saint-Tite-des-Caps and working as acting Fire Chief in Petite-Rivière-St-François.
