Positioning your personal brand in business

There are many ways to position yourself as a leader, an influential person in your market.

Each will attract a different type of customer, hence the question: how do you position your personal brand to attract customers and build strong business partnerships?

Here are some possible solutions that might help you.

1 - Be the first, initiate the action.

If you can establish yourself as the first to talk about a topic or to have made an innovation, it will become more difficult for your competitors to gain a foothold in your market.

For example, I could mention people like the inventor of the snowmobile Joseph-Armand Bombardier, Guy Laliberté with the modern circus or Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple.

Among the corporate examples, McDonald's (1952) will probably always be the leading brand, mainly because this fast food company was the first in the market. Burger King (1954) is seen as a copy for the simple reason that it came later in the market and under the influence of the other.

2 - Be an expert in your sector.

It is better to be known in a niche than to be ignored in a large market.

When people think of the niche you work in, you want them to think of you. The goal is to become the expert in that niche.

For example, when someone thinks of personal development, the name Anthony Robbins comes to mind or in motivation in Quebec, they think of Jean-Marc Chaput.

This principle also applies to different sectors, e.g. when you think of disaster clean-up or moving house, the advertisements for Qualinet and Clan Panneton come to mind, I am sure.

3 - To be a must for its clients and partners.

Another effective way to position your personal brand is to have a great customer service. You must do everything possible for the well-being of your customers.

There are many examples of companies that owe their success to their customer service. Generally, people prefer to pay a little more to get all the benefits that this unbeatable service offers.

We need to maintain our relationships and never take anything for granted.

4 - Be inspiring to others.

For example, Richard Branson (founder of Virgin) has a recognisable personal brand. He is seen as a successful businessman with no limits.

What can we say in Quebec about Pierre Lavoie, who now inspires thousands of young people to surpass themselves through physical activity, in addition to monopolizing hundreds of cyclists each year with the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie.

We have just seen different ways to position your personal brand.

Although I mention big names in this article, you can apply this to your own scale in any field.

As you can see, there are many solutions and they can all be interesting to implement.

The most important thing at this stage is to find your style and stick to it.
