As the saying goes, there’s always “another side to the coin”.
A few years ago, a couple of friends won a trip for two to Varadero. What a prize! They were very happy, but (there’s often a but) they regretted not having been able to bring their children. “It’s fun that we won the trip, but it would have been even more fun if we’d been able to bring the kids,” they said. Happy, yes, but with a downside.
They are not the only ones to have this kind of reflex. When we get good news or experience a positive event, we are happy with the situation, but we often tend to say: “There’s definitely a downside, but it’s still fun!
What a strange reflex! We appreciate the good side of the situation, and then immediately claim that it is not perfect because there is this or that drawback.
Now let’s look at the other side of the coin!
Depuis plusieurs années, lorsque je vis un événement « négatif » et peu importe lequel, j’ai pris l’habitude de voir l’autre côté de la médaille et de chercher l’aspect positif dans cette situation négative.
I say to myself: if there is a good side to the coin when you experience the positive, there must be one when you experience the negative. When a tile falls on my head, I look for the positive side and I always end up finding it.
So I suggest you do the same. You just have to make the effort to look for it and you’ll always end up finding the positive side of the coin. You’ll see, you’ll get a taste for it!
