We spend a large part of our lives questioning who we are. Why we make the choices we do, why we act and react the way we do, and so much more. Since time immemorial, man has been searching for himself, long before he set out to explore the farthest reaches of space. Socrates’ “know thyself” is not new.
On this subject, I recently had the opportunity to take a personality test. I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s happened to you too. Right off the bat, I’m not a fan of these kinds of tests, because I get the impression that they try to put people in a little box and tell them “you’re like this or you’re like that”. I’m more of the opinion that we all have our own personality and that, although we may share certain traits with other people, there are as many personalities as there are individuals.
In short! Urged on by my son, who said: “Go on, Dad, take it, you’ll like it!”, I set about answering the 100 questions on the famous test.
Of course, it’s on the web. I even took it from my phone. I answered the questions and at the end, I clicked “done”. Half a second later, the result came out: “You’re a …..”. (I’ll save myself a little embarrassment so as not to influence you). And then I start reading the description of MY personality. It explains the broad outlines of my personality: my strengths and weaknesses, in love, in society and at work, and so on. It’s very complete.
And wham! I felt like I was looking in a mirror; it was so true. I understood why my son had pushed me to take it. I discovered a little more about myself and understood some of my reactions. I was even able to compare myself with other famous people who have the same personality as me, it seems. In short, I loved it and encouraged my wife and two other children to take the test.
As I mentioned at the outset, knowing yourself is a lifetime’s work. We spend our time asking ourselves why and how? Why am I the same? Why did I act the way I did? Why do people think that about me? And so on. We talk about it with our friends over a meal, we tell our loved ones about our emotions, etc. Some people even go to a shrink, always with the aim of getting to know themselves better.
In short, you want to save some time in your reflections on WHO you are? I invite you to take the test. You will discover yourself and learn to know yourself better, to accept yourself and to love yourself more.
