Stéphane Auger, speaker, has been at the heart of NHL officiating for nearly 800 games. During this period, he was in close contact with the league's greatest players, sometimes even shoulder to shoulder. He witnessed the comments, the yelling and the screams of joy of these mythical players.

In every match, in a fraction of a second, he had to make decisions that were sometimes right and sometimes wrong. That's life and that's the role of a referee in the world of sport.

His role and his proximity to the NHL's elite have allowed him to build up a wealth of experience: not to mention the tasty anecdotes he has accumulated over the years. This is what he will share with you in his conferences.

The art of deciding

Stéphane Auger is one of the few Quebecers to have made it into the select club of National Hockey League (NHL) referees. In 15 years, he has officiated 739 games.

Refereeing hockey games means enforcing rules, making decisions and managing people. As in business, it requires a good dose of courage and diplomacy.

In his lecture "The Art of Deciding", Mr. Auger shares with you his experience and knowledge acquired over the years.

By going through his good and not so good moves, he will give you his best tips to decide when it is necessary, or let it go when it is better.

It will cover themes such as: determination, tenacity, judgement, authority, communication, respect, preparation, teamwork, pressure and resilience.

REFEREE, COLUMNIST, CONSULTANT AND ENTHUSIAST

A former National Hockey League referee turned expert commentator for TVA Sports, Stéphane Auger is regularly invited by the business community to give conferences in both English and French. Today, with the experience of several national and international championships and some 800 games in the NHL, he works as a consultant and is voluntarily involved with several hockey leagues in Europe and North America.

De 2019 à 2024, Stéphane Auger a été Directeur du département hockey du Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec. Il est aujourd’hui Directeur général de Hockey Québec.
