Stéphane Auger, speaker, has been at the heart of NHL officiating for nearly 800 games. During this period, he was in close contact with the league’s greatest players, sometimes even shoulder to shoulder. He witnessed the comments, the yelling and the screams of joy of these mythical players.

Stéphane Auger is one of the few Quebecers to have reached the elite ranks of National Hockey League (NHL) referees. Over 15 years, he officiated 739 games.

Refereeing hockey games means enforcing rules, making decisions, and managing people. Just like in business, it requires courage and diplomacy.

In his conference “The Art of Decision-Making”, Mr. Auger shares his experience and the insights he has gained over the years. By walking through his successes and missteps, he offers his best strategies for knowing when to make a decision—or when it’s better to let things slide.

About Stéphane Auger

REFEREE, COLUMNIST, CONSULTANT AND ENTHUSIAST

A former National Hockey League referee turned expert commentator for TVA Sports, Stéphane Auger is regularly invited by the business community to give conferences in both English and French. Today, with the experience of several national and international championships and some 800 games in the NHL, he works as a consultant and is voluntarily involved with several hockey leagues in Europe and North America.

From 2019 to 2024, Stéphane Auger was Director of the field hockey department at the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec. He is now General Manager of Hockey Québec.
